Main Event XXV
Torrance, CA -- The Peninsula Education Foundation’s MAIN EVENT celebrated its 25th anniversary on Saturday, May 5, 2007 under the big tent at American Honda Motors in Torrance. This annual fundraising auction and dinner-dance was attended by over 800 guests. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and help the Foundation reach its pledge of $1.5 million for the 2006-2007 school year.
As is traditional, the event included silent and live auctions with over 200 packages including sports tickets and memorabilia, dining, airplane rides, trips, entertainment, jewelry, wines and more. The live auction featured the infamous membership to the Portuguese Bend Beach Club which sold for $17,000.; two dinners for 20 with renowned jazz pianist David Benoit catered by Chef Christine Brown of Restaurant Christine at a beautiful ocean front home in Palos Verdes Estates which sold for $22,000.; and an evening with dinner at the Depot and Faith Hill concert for 10 in Honda’s private suite, which sold for $16,000. The Live auction grossed over $135,000.00.
The evening featured dancing for Main Event guests to the sounds of the Funky Hippies. Dinner was prepared by Chef Michael Shafer of The Depot Restaurant in Torrance. A Lexus SC 430 convertible coupe donated by Toyota Motor Sales was raffled off and the lucky winner was Brian Bussio of Rancho Palos Verdes.

PEF Phonathon Thanks!
This year’s annual Phonathon raised over $122,000 to date, with more donations arriving daily. There were over 100 callers, including teachers and principals, who volunteered over 500 hours to make phone calls to school families asking for support of PEF. Of the 7,000 public school families in the PVPUSD, we have contacted 3,500 of them.
Volunteers told friends that the minimum suggested donation is $365. However, in order to increase participation among our schools, callers encouraged families to donate at least $50 so their school would get extra funding from PEF for their principal’s incentive plan.
These callers donated their time and energy away from their families on a school night to help us with our campaign. A multitude of thanks goes their way…
