Jan and Steve Kuykendall

A Legacy of Giving

In keeping with their interest in education and a lifelong pattern of giving back to the community, Jan and Steve Kuykendall have become founding members of the Peninsula Education Foundation’s Legacy Circle by making a bequest to the Peninsula Education Foundation in their will. “This is a great community and we think many people who have raised children here will feel moved to give back like this,” says Steve. Two of their three children graduated from Peninsula High, with their oldest graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy after attending PVP public schools through ninth grade. Their son Brent is the assistant principal at Miraleste Intermediate School, and their daughter-in-law teaches at Ridgecrest Intermediate.

Through all of life’s stages, whether Jan had a toddler in tow or Steve was in Sacramento serving in the State Legislature they have always volunteered and given back to their community. “Our involvement with our church, the schools and other community nonprofit organizations we care about – have been among the most stable parts of my life as I went through all of my career changes,” recalls Steve. “We have certainly gained so much personally as we have volunteered and donated throughout the years,” says Jan, who has long been involved with her church’s choir program and various children’s programs on the Peninsula while raising their family. Steve has served his nation proudly from the US Marine Corps to the US House of Representatives. He served as president of the Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF) Board of Trustees and currently serves on PEF’s Endowment Fund Professional Advisory Council. They both look forward to spending time with their grandchildren and enjoying Jan’s retirement.
